Alkaline activated Klozur SP injection in Imperial County

The Legacy SoCal team recently completed an alkaline-activated Klozur® Sodium Persulfate injection at a project site in Imperial County, California. The remediation effort was performed using a combination of direct-push injection points and an infiltration trench to effectively distribute the ISCO treatment solution throughout the targeted treatment area.

The project site is currently an active residential complex.
The mixing trailer and reagents were staged in designated parking spaces behind the complex to support the injection activities.

The Klozur® Sodium Persulfate was delivered in 55.1-pound bags and supplied by Evonik.
The dry reagent was stored within a secondary containment berm to ensure safe handling and storage.

The sodium hydroxide activator (25% liquid solution) was supplied in 330-gallon totes and stored within a secondary containment berm to ensure safe handling and storage.

The Klozur® SP ISCO solution was mixed aboard our custom self-contained mixing trailer.
Our trailers are specifically designed to efficiently blend reagents and treatment additives while maintaining a controlled and safe operating environment.

The mix water was sourced from a fire hydrant located nearby. Legacy coordinated water access and usage with the local water utility agency prior to field activities to ensure an adequate water supply to support the mixing and injection operations.

Because traffic control measures were in place and the street experienced very little traffic, the water supply line was routed across the roadway using traffic-rated hose ramps. This setup allowed water to be safely conveyed across the roadway to the mixing trailer while maintaining access for vehicles and minimizing disruption to the surrounding area.

A truck-mounted Geoprobe® 6600 direct-push rig was used to advance the injection tooling to the targeted treatment intervals.

A 5-foot-long direct-push injection tool was used to deliver the treatment solution. Injection activities targeted a 5-foot treatment interval between 8 and 13 feet below ground surface (bgs).

Injection into the existing infiltration gallery was performed through a 4-inch PVC access point specifically utilized for solution injection.
Overall, the project was completed safely, smoothly, and efficiently, allowing the team to finish the work before the onset of extreme summer temperatures. Completing the injection event ahead of the hottest part of the summer eliminated an additional potential safety concern.
